Bree's Discus Tank Build Thread

exciting :D

The time frame has started! So that means "technically" I could get the fish any minute. I doubt it though, I'm guessing around 10AM.

Dan- What time did yours get to you?

THEY ARE HERE!!!

(acclimating in my tank!)

Pictures and a video to come!

sweet!
(just to answer your question, mine arrived at 4pm due to a mishap by FedEx)

For now I am letting them settle in- lights off, and out of the room. (Which is the hardest thing ever! All I want to do is go peek at the tank every two minutes! haha)

I can tell they are a little stressed from the shipment, but they are absolutely gorgeous. Colors are showing up wonderfully, and they all look healthy. Skittish, but that's understandable considering their journey! Hopefully it won't take long until they are begging at the front of the tank for food :)

I'll post pictures either later tonight or tomorrow- I want to give them time to settle in and not freak them out.

I want to see too!!!!

Wow. These fish are truly something.

They are now exploring the tank like experts, not the least bit shy. Practically begging for food (which they get tomorrow morning!). They are just perfect. By the way, the "suprise fish" is a white butterfly! Absolutely stunning. The two checkerboards are so bright, it's insane. I love the yellow fins on my blue diamond! The albino yellow is stunning. And the Altum Flora is... well... huge!

I'm thoroughly convinced that I ordered 6 puppies instead of discus by the way they follow me around in the tank and beg!

Kenny really outdid himself this time. Pictures tomorrow.

For some reason the video won't upload on youtube or photobucket.. I'll try again tomorrow.

I couldn't be more happy with this order.

Anyone looking for insanely quality discus- Kenny is your guy!!

Oh, you just wait :) :) :)

There won't be many at first; in fact I'm planning to steal an idea from a fellow discus keeper here and use some stemless glasses with gravel in them instead of pots. Probably 3 max to start with. I really just want to keep the tank super clean and bare for now to get some nice growth on them.

by chance could that be my stemless cosmo glasses??!! plse do! it's a great compromise!!

with mine I see the roots wiggle to the bottom + it does collect a lot of debris/poop for ferts!

I recently posted "after 1 yr my stendkers are still here!"

but may I suggest using 2 AC's & DIY one with extended intake tube (into a tee preferably - see my pics!)

will check more at end of your thread, I just started on your pg 1 so will catch up!

Sure is! Great idea, sushi. Works wonderfully.
I'll go check out the filter in your pics.. thanks for the suggestion!

What is the benefit to the extended filter tube, if I may ask? And the tee... Is that to collect the debris on the bottom of the tank?
Hope you enjoy the thread :)

Thank you! And yes, Kenny is a great one to buy from.

Anyone have any suggestions for the plants in the stemless cosmo glasses?

ok I'm up to pg 3. if no one has yet (I'm sure someone has) I suggest amazon swords, mine are flourishing (after I made chg in my lighting/filtration/aeration process) in my cosmos! + when u buy, buy the ones with extra young shoots! I buy mine from walmart (must QT & I do quick bleach wash) swords that have shoots already!

I kept them as runners from one cosmo to another (takes some doing w/o breaking the shoot) & they've taken root so after that I cut the umbilical cord & they are growing all on their own!!
