What fish can I put a group of brichardis with? Are they aggressive enough to put with auratuses or maingano? Or would a more peaceful tank be best?

You could keep a nice sized colony in there. The only problem is that they really will take over the tank and will send out " Brichardi Death Squads " to kill other fish. I didn't see this with my original group but as young grew out they become uber aggressive. They especially hated my Julidichromis.
Not to say it can't be done, but I like to warn people about Brichardi before you buy. If you want a species tank, they're awesome. They are carnivores and Mbuna are algae eaters. Could be a problem down the road with Bloat issues.
In a tank that size you could do Venustus or another similar sized Haplochromine. There are some stunning African haps you can choose from: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1160. You could keep a variety of Aulonocara as well.
Or you could go with Tanganyikans and keep numerous different species together. Or a Tropheus tank. Or Victorians. Or an Mbuna tank. You should choose the fish you like best and choose it's tankmates based on that fish.

Yeah IMO there's no peacefulness when it comes to Brichardi's only relentless aggression..

I did have a colony of brichardi's with Frontosa in my 120gal but my Fronts were like 9inches and my Brichardi's still punked them out a bit so the Fronts learned early on not to mess around with them.. and just to note my Brichardi's never killed a Front..

Here are a few of my all time fave photo's of them i took back then..

I have a solo pair of brichardi in my 90 gallon Lake Tang with Altolamp calvus and comps; plenty of rockwork. So far, so good and I have not had any problems; some short chases but nothing serious. In fact, the zebra calvus are the most aggressive specimens in the tank (go figure). However, I have heard of the scenario described above; brichardi pair breeds and then all hell breaks loose. I have a feeling I have a non-breeding pair, but we'll see.

My experience was like this: bought a group of 4 from the LFS to acquire a pair. After 8 or 9 months 2 paired up and spawned. No trouble. They claimed a small territory and were not overly aggressive. They spawned twice a month. At this point I was culling often. After awhile I removed the parents to another tank with most of their offspring. The other pair I had began defending the remaining young but weren't overly aggressive. They began to spawn twice a month. I removed them. The juvies were reaching 1" and started to form small groups of 3 or 4 and literally track down Julies and kill them. I now have one 1" Brichardi. It was the only way to keep my Julies alive and they still bicker. I will probably have to rehome that one as well someday.
