Ok, i think i've finally managed to stabilize my 5 gallon hex enough to support some inverts. The only thing in it now are two juvie guppies and one thriving RCS. I wanna get some more rcs and some ramshorns. But i was just wondering if i could keep one or two briggs in there too? I'm guessing prob. just one but just wanted to be sure. I have an Aquaclear 10-20 on it as a filter. And it is an eclipse tank that i cut the plastic so the filter would fit snug. So it is completely enclosed except for maybe a 1/4" around where the filter return is. Thanks.

Yep. Try a brig or two in there. You can add more shrimps there as they do not add too much bioload. Do supplement your snails with calcium. What are your pH and KH? I use plaster of Paris pucks for my own snails and they love to eat the plaster of Paris. It helps promote healthy shell growth aside from buffering your water and clarifying it.

LAst i checked my ph was around 7.2. I've got crushed coral in the filter now to help buffer the water as its kind of soft. But whenever i get the rest of the inverts i was gonna make the plaster of paris pucks to keep in there and then feed snail jello also. How often do they need to be fed?

I simply add another plaster of Paris puck after the last one is almost gone. I feed snail jello once a day but I have been using plaster of Paris pucks pretty much more lately than the snail jello but I still feed them veggies, reptile foods, commercial fishfoods and anything else I can get for them.lol

Have you checked your water parameters if you need to add more crushed corals?

i have just started on reptile foods too. I crush turtle food as it just floats if i dont and everyone goes nuts for it. I thought id try that as its rich in calcium.

I would only add one. Also, be aware especially in such a small tank, bridgesii produce a good amount of waste. It can be really challenging to vac a tank wiht baby shrimp but gravel vacs are necessary with snails especially in such a low volume tank.

Alright thanks msjinkzd. I was leaning more towards one anyway because i don't really wanna hatch clutches and i would feel bad if i just disposed of a clutch that could have babies in it. I know that its hard to vacuum, i was just planning on either using airline tubing or just using my regular gravel vac with a really fine sponge in it.

On a side note, how much waste will the ramshorns produce? I'm gonna have my DPs help keep the population down, but they can only eat so much. So if i'm gonna have ramshorns in that tank too, would i be better off just skipping the brigg for now?

ramshorns are not as heavy waster producers as bridgesii. They should all be fine. Your dp's will like your cherry shrimp as well if their populations starts to overtake your tank.

I don't bother crushing the floating foods just to make them sink. Snails seem to like the fun going up to catch the floating foods.
