Briggs and chemicals

Monday is when I do my water changes, usually 10-15%. I add my ferts and such at that time. I noticed that my snails were not moving around as much.

What I add is:

Excel one cap full
Flourish complete one cap full
Flourish Potassium one cap full

I also added for the first time liquid calcium...1/2 of a cap full.

I have a 55 gal and I tested my water prior to the change and it was all zeros with ph at 7.8.

I may have had a small temperature drop to around 70 degrees as well. AC's came back on...

I am not sure about the potassium product but everything else I have used with my Briggs without an issue one caveat with the liquid calcium though is to add it to the water before you put it in the tank , it can burn sensitive snail skin if your pour it straight in the aquarium.
 
I mixed all the chemicals in the new water before I added it to the tank, so it should have been dispersed pretty well before it made it into the tank.

The test kit I use is the API master kit.

I did notice this evening I have an Endler female that is nipping at them so maybe they are just hiding from her.

Yikes!

If this is so...I'm rather curious as to how many people are doing ferts like PMDD and EI that have snails in their tanks? I know I use both methods. Am I killing my little slithering friends then? Haven't heard this before.
 
I wanted to add that my MTS, Ramshorns, and pond snails don't seem to have any problem with it. My Briggs were hiding in their shells tho.

ETA: I only added one capful to a 55 gal. So it wasn't a WHOLE lot...

Glad I found this thread. I have been dosing my 40 gallon with potassium for the plants pretty regularly. I had no idea that it could harm my briggs. Needless to say I have stopped.

Now I wonder what to do if the plants show signs of potassium deficiency what to add??:huh:
