Briggs and chemicals

I continue to dose on a daily regiment with no noted ill effects. Matter of fact, I just posted about one brigg who is growing like crazy.

Definately curious to hear more follow up on this.

Yes, I also just found this out too because I had put KCL in my water sofetner and even in the small amounts they were mad.
They are all fine now, but make sure to put them in isolation with clean water and lots of good food until they are completely recovered.

Interesting. I was not aware of any toxic link between snails and potassium.

I'm still a little skeptical...there has to be someone who has kept brigs or other snails and dosed K...I'm sure there's a certain threshold which may have been passed.

Well I only dosed 5ml to a 55 gallon tank. That is the only thing that I can think of...

Hmm...I wonder if there are other factors involved in toxicity that might affect why certain snails do not react with certain doses.

I would have to think that if it is harmfull, it has to be due to build up in the water column thus meaning lack of proper maintenance. I'm dosing daily with water changes 1x/wk. I haven't seen any ill effects. I know there are others out here dosing planted tanks with snails as well.

I wanted to add that my MTS, Ramshorns, and pond snails don't seem to have any problem with it. My Briggs were hiding in their shells tho.

MTS, Rams and Pond snails are extremely tough creatures... I had some Bladders, 2 rams and some Qulited Mels (MTS cousins) in my tank whilst I had high ammonia levels and was fishless cycling my tank.

The bladders and rams hitch-hiked in on plants which is why they were there.

Long story short- not only did they live in toxic water- they thrived and bred like crazy during that first month. These three snail species would probably survive a nuclear holocaust.

i was wondering if you are able to put chemicals in while the fish are in the tank ecause my tank is looking a bit dirty and i think that i might have ti add some. and also when i do a water change should i also add the chemicals to that to because i am taking it out and replacing it with new?

Which chemicals for instance are you referring to? The only chemical that you can safely add in the long run is dechlorinator that should bind both chlorine and chloramine, both of which can be found in tapwater as both substances are extremely dangerous to all sorts of aquatic life.
