Bristlenose growth a sign of gender?

there not quite fry, I would say the two smaller ones are about 1" juvies, while the bigger one is around 1.5-1.75" and has a much larger body...

Gender will begin to show at around 9 months of age. And again, some a little sooner, some a little later.

thought I would post a little update, the runt AND the massive BN have both turned out to be males. There is a much more considerable size difference now, as the bigger one is easily 2-3 times the size of the smaller.

When mature, IME females tend to be broader and fatter.

But growth when juveniles I don't think is determined by sex. Genetics play a part, and also some are bigger eaters than others. Yours may just be eating much more than the others so growing faster. When I raise fry they do not tend to grow at the same rate and much of the time the bigger ones seem to be much more ravenous eaters, and that goes for various species of fish.

I agree my fry all grow at different rates. Some are just greedier than others when the food arrives.

plenty of food in the tank, I spread it about evenly so that one can't dominate the food.

Its almost like the smaller one hasn't grown since I got him, he is just beggining to get his first bristle, and the larger already has 6-10 little bristles...
