Hello,
I have a bristlenose pleco that doesn't accept much food i give him. It is only in a 30g tank with not much algae growth so he definatly needs supplements.

He doesn't accept algae wafers, shrimp pellets or cucumber. he will sometimes eat flakes but i don't want to litter the bottom of my tank with flakes just for him.

In my larger tank, there is nothing my lepord pleco wont eat!

Are there any bristlenose owners that could help me?
THANKS

Hmmm... mine is an absolute PIG, I'm surprised you're having trouble. Could be your plec isn't feeling top notch, or you may just have yourself a picky eater. I've never had a (healthy) plec that turned down Hikari Algae Wafers - the only one I had that was reluctant was a gold nugget who was wild caught and, despite being quarantined and medicated for intestinal parasites/worms, only lived a few months before I lost him.

I have had some plecos that were sorta picky... they would not take just any ol' algae wafer. Had to be the Hikari wafers! I bought some Wardleys algae wafers once... still got most of them since they would not eat them.

Have to tried fresh zuccini or spinach leaves? Do you have any driftwood or anything for him to nibble on wood wise? I've heard it's important to have wood in the tank for them... I always have and have not had any problems.

Good luck,

I've had my Bristlenose's for only a few months and they seem a little timid. As far as I can tell, they have only eaten algae. Which is a good thing because I've got plenty of algae in my tanks and that's what I got them for. There are alot of plants and driftwood to nibble on also. If they wanted fish food to eat, they'd have to compete for it with all the other fish.

Another good wafer besides Hikari's is the H2O Stable Wafer by New Life Spectrum. They're a little more expensive, but my loaches sure do love them.

I have a tiny albino bristle nose in my tank. I always feed algea wafers at night but the only thing I have ever noticed him eating was he was sucking on a shrimp pellet the other day. The algea wafers are always gone come morning so I'm not sure who is eating them. I wonder what he eats but seems to be growing well and there is some algea in there if that's his "thing". When I got him he was almost as small as my littlest rummy nose and now he is really growing...so he sure eating something.
What do they normaly eat?? I have a huge piece of driftwood in that tank but rarely see him on it.

Bristlenose food

Hi Mack.....I put 5 bristlenose in a 55 gal. tank. Now there must be 50 or 60...they multiply like rabbits. One of the foods they like the best along with zucinni is canned green beans. I must go thru at least a can a week. Of course, I have no alge either. Sandy ;)
