Brochis with internal bacterial infection.

Thanks Doc! I did another 80% water change 11am this morning and added the antibiotics. I put some algae wafer in last night because he won't eat the medicated fish food and he's swimming all over the place foraging for food. He looks really good.

Today he's very active, swimming all around and hoping to find algae on the acrylic sides of the tank.

His breathing is very calm and not rapid. The only redness is the tiniest hint of it on his body right behind the right gill, where the blotch was. The red streak is completely gone. I haven't really seen any poo, or maybe I did and thought it was bits of algae wafer or antibiotic fish food. Should this be a cause for concern?

I'm going to continue with the antibiotics for a couple more days, or until all the redness is gone, and then I'll make sure all the params match the main tank and I'll put him back in with his buddies the ADFs and ottos.

I would do teh full course of treatment. Sounds like you are doing a great job. I would not be concerned that you are not seeing feces, I assume its a bare bottom tank and it may just be getting sucked into the filter from his antics. You have done a really good job!

Thanks Rach, yes it's bare bottom. I put a sheet of black (all I had was some construction paper, lol) on the back for comfort, and wish I had black on the bottom too, but it's an Eclipse minibow and has that elevated bottom on it so it is fairly light gray.

I'm going to try to take a pic of him and the tank. I'm so grateful I had the tank sitting here, though not set up. I had just enough time before work, that day, to set it up properly and get him in it, then later start the meds.

He looks so much better. The poor little thing was just totally unaware of me when I scooped him out of my tank. He didn't try to run away and he was leaning over. He was so red in those places I described.

What gave me hope was that there was no sign of any edema at all, no dropsy, so I was hopeful that his kidneys and other organs hadn't sustained any damage from the septicemia.

Thanks for the reassurance on the poo issue. I was a little concerned, but again, no bloat or anything that might indicate constipation.

Thanks, Sam. I'm very hopeful.

Glad to hear the redness is going away- rather rapidly too! Great that he is hunting down algae, bet he loves that wafer! Such a good nurse! ;)

Thanks, Viva! :D

I was thinking so, too. I mean, on the boxes of Maracyn and Maracyn II it said do five days of treatment which would be through today but I actually thought I'd add at least two days to that to make a total of seven days.

Do you think that's long enough or I could go longer? I have enough meds to go ten days if needed.

My Brochis is looking good this morning. His coloring look really good. He's swimming around and wiggling his little body, working those barbels on the bare bottom. I put a couple of shrimp pellets in his tank last night, and I put som FBWs in there just a few minutes ago. Around 11am I will do another 80% water change and then dose with meds.
