Hi all,
i have just setup a new marine aquarium and have had it cycling for nearly 4 weeks. It is a small 45 L tank ( 24 x 10 x 12 ) and i have 4 kg of live rock and 6 mollies to mature the filtration. or a filter i have a aqua clear 300. I have alot of brown algae growing on the gravel and glass and was wondering how to get rid of it? and what is the cause of it is.

Thanks

Its diatom algae, you can do water changes after cleaning the glass and add more circulation into the tank. Its part of the cycle that you get algae, don't worry about it. You probably have chemical levels off since your still cycling but they should even out later, slowing the algae. If you have lights on your tank you can cut down how long they are on.

Curious ... Did your mollies start off as freshwater and how'd you go about acclimating if they did?

(The only mollies in my little town are kept in freshwater ... )

mollies can be acclimated slowly to saltwater. They're, if not the only, one of few that can.

I know they CAN be ... the question is HOW? How long did it take to convert them.

The first time i tried it i was extremerley cautious about it by siphoning water through standard air line untill salinity was similar, but the second time i added more i just chucked them in and they were fine so i don't think they are overy delicate when it comes to it
