My ottos eat blanched spinach. The trick is it has to be in the tank at least 10 hours before they will touch it.

What do you mean when you say blanched? do you mean putting it in a bowl with water in it, and microwaving it for like 30 seconds?
You got it. That's exactly what I do to blanch it. Hang it on the tank wall in a quiet spot with a veggie clip.
I have 3 gold mystery snails, they work great. They don't eat any vegetables that i give them, but they do chump the algae and wafers pretty well. Also they haven't reproduced at all, not sure if that's luck, or normal. Seems like people underestimate snails in an aquarium, i love mine, in fact, they're my favorite things in the whole tank =)
