ok well ever since I put in a new bulb on my tank in order to try planting my tank (bulb is a 6700K spectrum bulb) I have been having alot of brown algae develop all over my tank, and I was just wondering what fish eats brown algae?

and yes I know what most of you will probably say: "you should fish the problem causing it before I get a new fish"

but I already feed my fish both meaty and algae based foods (including wafers)

so once my algae problem is fixed the algae eaters still should have plenty of algae to munch on.

ok so, what fish are known to eat brown algae? I havent really ever known the answer to this question, because I hear there arent many that do eat it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I had an outbreak of brown algae, then I bought an oto. I woke up the next morning and all my plants were green again. "squeeky" is a cleaning machine.

What size tank has the algae in it?

its my 29g

This tank has been set up for more then a year now and I do weekly 50% water changes

oto's are awesome diatome and algae eating machines.

What size tank, and how old?

When my algae started popping up, the tank had aged about 3-4 months. I have not seen the brown algae since squeeky got hungry.

Are you fertilizing the water at all?

I did dose with flourish once, but that was 2 or 3 weeks ago, I dont think that could be the problem, wouldnt that have changed once I did a water change?

Im not going to dose again since I learned I didnt need it in a thread I started in the planted forum.

I would get a BN for a 29. would take prolly 4 oto's

sounds good to me, I think ill go with the oto's since I have never had any before.

but I will have to wait until next week since my blue ram has been healing from a huge opening on its head, I hope it will heal ok, I have been doing 2 25% water changes the last 2 weeks, but I think I will up it to 3 now since he isnt healing as I would like him to be.
