Brown Algae...

aw, sorry to hear about your ram, hope he recovers fully!

i have diatoms on my plants some too, and i was wondering which of my fish are the ones noshing on them, since i've never seen anybody nibbling. tank has 1 angel, 5 longfin tetras, 1 tiny striped barb, 4 emerald cories. and about a dozen apple snails. i want to find out who's the diatomuncher, lol, and then get some more of the same.

(not a thread hijack, i swear! lol)

my tank suddenly grew a ****ton of diatoms in the last week cuz the sun shifted and now falls on the tank for an hour every morning.... i had MTS and some ramshorns in the tank but they didn't have any interest in it... i dumped a bunch of pond snails in last night, and i woke up this morning to a sparkling tank >.>

why not do larger water changes.. 25% is pretty small when you are tryingto aid an injury(healing)

i figured since I was changing it more then once a week it would be fine, but now that you say it, I will do larger WCs

thanks for the suggestion

BN pleco = no more brown algae

I would guess the apple snails, but they aren't the best. BN are good but they poop a lot so I would suggest otos. Although, more water changes and less food (and less light if your plants can take it) would help too.

But adding that much more of a bioload can cause other algae issues to pop up.

I would try larger water changes as Star_rider suggested.

I was actually thinking the same, I still might add oto's later on but not any time soon, for right now Im worried about getting my ram back to health, ill just keep doing WCs and scrub my rocks and ornaments to keep my tank from looking ugly.

Once my Ram is cured and is healthy again, how many otos do you think I could get? I was thinking like 2 or 3, but I dont know.

Well ill ask again in about a week or 2 when I plan on getting them.
