brown algae

Hermits are best for controlling it on the sand and rock, while some snails will help on the glass. IME, cleaning it manually off the glass is your best bet for control. It does eventually wear out the nutrients and go away.

i went to a different lfs (terrible place!!) and they had blue legged hermits, but they were $7 a pop! which is really expenisve isnt it? so, i bought 2 scarlet hermit crabs, and 2 turbos. think this was a wise purchase? will these guys help keep my brown algea in check?

also, im going on vacation tommorrow, so, can i turn my lights off more than normal?right now my standard stip light is on for 12, and the compact flouresent is on for about 8. i was thinking of not useing the compact flouresent at all, and maybe turning the standard strip light on for mayb 8 hours a day. will this help?

thanx
