It seems like a have patches of algae (brown in color) on my tank's walls... it's only a 5g hex tank and i'm wondering if there are some shrimp or some fish i could get to help control it.. or what i can do to stop it... thanks

I have some brown algae issuesive tried doing the algae tabs and
the algea gone liquid form but it didntreally work so i just scrub it with a
cloth when i do my gravel vacuming it was reall bad about 2 months ago
but with regular cleaning vacuming and water changes ive noticed that its
starting to go away and that its taking alot longer to form im trying to fight
the good fight . .. .ive also noticed that the brown algae seems to always
form around the output nozzle on my canister filters im thinking about taking off the nozzles and scrubing em out next. .where is the algae forming on your tank is it near the filter or just on the glass i know a 5 gal is kinda small may be hard to tell ... ;) ;) ;) ;)

it's on the opposite side of my filter intake.. it's near my filter's output and my heater... i'm just wondering if there is a fish that i could get because my tank is on its way to getting heavily planted and i'm worried because i don't want an outbreak i'm going to have to clean a lot..

ok, yeah i read your post wrong, it's near my output, so i think i'm going to change the filter and wipe that area down.. then clean out my input because i think alot of plant debris and 2 neons are sucked up in it. :(

what kind of fish do you have in your tank? A 5gal really limits the amount of fish you can keep in your tank.

Without knowing what you have in your tank;

a good fish is a Chinese algae eater
a 5gal is kinda small for anything else
maybe an oto, depends on what else you have

if you want to go the shrimp route you can try
Bamboo shrimp, also known as butterfly shrimp (they really are great with algae)
Ghost shrimp (they dont last too long)
Amano Shrimp
Cherry Shrimp

tell us whatcha got

I'm curious as to how you can recommend a CAE (Chinese Algae Eater) to any tank - especially a five gallon tank?

This is just bad advice.
Do not put a CAE in your 5 gallon!

i really cant, im straining for ideas

i know they get way to big for a 5gal, but they're pretty good while they're small

caleb
id stick with the shrimp, with the CAE you would have to get rid of it when it gets too big

Try and never say it's ok to get a fish while it's "small" .. I mean really! It's only a 5 gallon..

If you know a fish gets to big for an aquarium, never recommend getting one. I hope you understand what I am trying to say....

yah i understand

CAE get about 12"

im so used to taking the lazy way out that sometimes i give bad advice; namely getting a cheap fish that eats algae like crazy and worrying about size later.....luckily my lfs has agreed to take my cae's when they get too big (i love my lfs)

caleb go with the shrimp, but we need to know what else is in your tank

It's not right to give others bad advice.

You have been here long enough to know that by now.
