I have a newly set up tank (about 6 weeks) most of my plants are now starting to become covered with this brown algae looking stuff. At first I thought is might be dust from the Flourite, but it is also on the glass. Most of my plants are growing well but I am afraid that the brown stuff will ruin them. I have read that brown algae is most common in new tanks and will eventually pass, is this true? Is there anything I can do?

Diatoms, and yes they will pass. They are easily removed, so keep after them, and Oto's love Diatoms, so if you have access pick up a few of them.
