Brown Algea Outbreak

My 75gal reef tank has a algea outbreak for some reason. I changed my PC bulbs from a 50/50 to a full strength 6700k/10000k and now my sand is filled with it. My water qualities are OK so that cant be my problem. I haven't added any new fish recently so whats causing my sand to turn brown? I do need some more hermits but I don't think thats my problem. I went back to a 50/50 bulb just this weekend hoping this would help. I need some help here because I haven't had this kind of problem since I really started this tank over 3 years ago.

I buy my water from the same pet shop which I've been going to for over 5 years. I just replaced the bulbs in my light a little more than a week ago and they had a little more output than the one I replaced.

Brown algae isn't photosynthetic. I'd suspect that either something else changed, or the increased light gave the benefit to something other than algaes, allowing more food to be available for the diatoms to really take off. It will likely wear out shortly.

You are wrong there girl. Phaeophytas ARE photosynthetics Indeed all algaes are photosynthetics.

Diatoms can grow in complete darkness as well, so they only need very little light.

so how do we go about fighting brown algea, my water conditions are good i have a 55 gallon fo with:
4 damsel
1 turbo snail
1 pink tipped haitian anemone
7-8 red and blue legged hermit crabs

my tank is about 3 month old
