Brown furry algae

I should have phrased my question better. I googled it, and read the Wikipedia entry, but I am wondering what it means in a tropical aquarium. Is it good, bad, short term, long term, a problem, benificial etc etc ??

Edit : hmmm so more light hey. I have an Aqua One tank, with a built in light. Can/should these be modified to pump out more watts? I'm not seeing anywhere near as much as teh original poster, but I certainly don't want it to get worse. I may post a photo or two myself tomorrow.

Gomison,
What type of bulb (florescent (sp), incandescent)? Do you know what kind of spectrum it is?

The Aqua One tank has a flouro light, I have done a quick search but can't find any specific information on it's spectrum or wattage.

Just one more thing I'm going to have to research I guess. The store I bought it should know, they sell a lot of them.

Edit: Found this on a site selling the same tank... "NEW PL Light tube included for a brighter clearer tank"

If you don't mind using a fish to take care of your problem, Otocynclus catfish will make short work of diatoms. They're quite small and will eat algae off of plant leaves without damaging them. I like their presence in an aquarium.
