Brown goo on windows

Hey everyone!

i have been on vacation for the last 2 weeks at my parents house in colorado. (i live in chicago) my neighbor has called me a few minutes ago and he's telling me there is lots of brownish gunk on the aquarium walls. he says that it comes off easily, but it comes back after 2-3 days. what could be the cause of this? this has never happened before to me.

all the water parameters are normal, everything is normal, fish are healthy.
there is also build-up on the rocks.

Do you do weekly water changes? You've been gone for two weeks.
Maybe your neighbor is over feeding your fish.
I don't know.

do you think a UV filter would help? my LFS is having a sale this week on them. think it would be a worthy investment?

what else is strange is that its a pleco tank.

For diatoms..no but they are pretty handy

ill probably buy the UV filter anyway. 30 dollars for a 13 watt UV aint so bad.

a UV filter, whether it's $30 dollars or $3.00, is a waste of money in this case. it will do absolutely nothing for the diatom growth.

what else is strange is that its a pleco tank

.except for Otocinclus, plecostomus do not eat diatoms.
