i ordered some plants through an online plant supplier and most of the plants are doing well, some could be better (knew i was taking a risk getting plants in the mail in the cold of winter). i got java moss and it came to me brown. was wondering if it will green up? i have it attached to driftwood and a large rock in my tank. has anyone else had this experience and the moss come back to life?
 
java moss is pretty resilient... I had some in my tank a few years back and at one point thought it had died off and disappeared. after my siamese algae eater died recently I noticed the stuff popping up again (my guess is that the SAE was eating it). If your java moss has a hint of life left in it, it'll grow...give it time, if it doesn't all rot it'll grow.
 
ok, i'll leave it in there and see what it does. also, i have brazilian pennywort that seems to not be doing so hot, the stems turn to mush. any kind of help for that? i've got it planted in the substrate to a point where there are roots. thinking the cold of the transport may have weakened it, but everything else looks fine except the java moss.
 
Mmm, the only time I recieved brown java moss it was quite dead and never recovered. I ended up buying a new batch that arrived a nice bright green.

I would say try putting it in a high-light high-nutrient environment and see how it does. Despite it being a low light plant, it will react favorably to higher light and grow faster.
 
I've had java moss turn brown and died because of high water temp.
maybe the java moss was really sent even though it was in bad condition.
maybe you can return the java moss and demand replacement.
 
Your brazilian pennywort? Should be trimed with all rotten parts removed. Place it also in a high light, nutrient rich environment and cross your fingers. Make sure roots are good and healthy. If roots are bad, don't waste your time. Post a picture of it if you can?

The high temp thing might be true...cause my 5gal thats around 78.5-80F is turning brown in some areas...where as my nano 1gal tank with no heater etc...is bright green...
 
My 5 gal with my betta is usually higher than 82 degrees and the java moss I just put in there last week has already started sending up some nice new growth points and is growing towards the light. It is a hex tank and has a 10 watt fluorescent light over it. I also have some pennywort in there that is doing quite well.
 
Moss growth

Hey Sammie7...is your moss tied to anything? Mine is just a clump floating or leaning against a piece of twig...I am wondering if this is the problem...cause my java moss looks like a tumble weed...I kept wanting them to look like the ones I see in the pics online...like they all grow upward toward the light...
