Brown slimy stringy nasty algae?

Do you use an RO/DI?

Yes,I have an Aquasafe R/O-D/I 110 gpd.285 ppm going in,0 ppm out.I bought it a couple months ago,I have produced about 200 gallons so far.

How long has it been around? Mine only looks slightly similar now, because mine is much more long and thin, and not really grouped. You can send a couple pictures to WWM if you are still having trouble identifying it.

It started about 2 weeks ago,I thought it was just a type of slime algae so I hooked up the canister filter with some fresh phos. remover and some activated carbon,Let it run for a couple days, changed it,let it run a couple more days,I also have done a couple major w/c in the last week, siphoning off what I can.I also started different light cycle today(7hrs.)I hope my corals can take it for a couple weeks, but only time will tell.Mine is really stringy in places too,and it traps small bubbles.Just like the pics in the article Grins showed me.

You can remove it daily as you combat it with a soft bristle tooth brush.

I recommend you use the iron oxide phosphate remover because it will remove silicates also.

I recommend that you change the media in the first 2 weeks. The quick replacement will help drop the contaminants out of the water column.
Try Warner Marines PhoSar HC. It is the strongest IMO.
