Brown spots?

I bought some plants from my lfs and they have brown leaves on them. iv had them for some time and the brown didnt leave but actually spread. should i cut off the brown parts? the rest of the plant is growing fine by the way.

Could be brown spots as in algae or brown spots from a deficiency (happens alot with swords)

Cut the old leaves to solve your problem.

Most swords in petstores are grown emersed. It's possible that the emersed leaves are dying off, and the new leaves will be submersed growth which will look quite different from the initial leaves.

Is the plant growing new leaves that look ok?

yes. it has new nice looking leaves. there is also a stem reaching out of the water now.

Because if it is, then you have a deficiency.

if you can rub the brownspots off its probably algae!

no. it was just one big brown spot. it was there when i got it from the lfs. it looked as if it was wilting. it is much better now. btw it is an amazon sword.

If it was grown emersed, the original leaves will probably die off. I have a red melon sword, it had green leaves on long stalks when I got it, those all started to but it has grown lots of new red leaves that stay closer to the base.
