Brown "stuff" on slate rocks and fish dying

But will they be ok together? The ones i want to get are still small, and they will take a while to "grow out of my tank".

What are good kinds of fish to put in my tank in your opinions?

Now lets say my ammonia and nitrite levels are on the high side, what do i add to the water to lower them.

Im thinking about getting the freshwater master test kit, but is that all that comes with the kit, just the stuff to test the water for specific things? Or does the kit also come with the stuff to rid the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and lower pH levels? I'm kinda new to this, so thats why im asking all these questions.:)

Thanks Everyone

There is no way that 2 BPs and 2 oscars will work together in that size of a tank. They will quickly out grow it, and the minimum tank size for just 1 oscar is 75 gallons.

Any detectable ammonia and nitrite is too much. A cycled tank will not have detectable ammonia and nitrite. Anything you can add to reduce these levels will only interfere with the cycle and make it take even longer. And you don't need to mess with the pH- it is better to have a stable pH than an ideal pH. the best thing you can do right now is to get a test kit asap (the one you mentioned is good), test the water every day, and do enough water changes to keep ammonia and nitrite below .25. Cycling with fish is a long and difficult process. You may need to do large water changes every day, like 50-70%, until the tank cycles. If you can find BioSpira (the only bacterial additive that actually does anything, don't let someone sell you anything else), it may help, but it doesn't always work. Once the tank cycles, you'll be able to do just a weekly water change.

Since it is newly setup and you may not yet be attached to your fish, you could always take the fish back to the store. Then you can do a fishless cycle and once that is over start adding new fish again.

If you have ANY friends that have established tanks setup you could ask, beg, plead, or even buy some established filter media or substrate from them. Some pet shops will even give or let you purchase established filter media or bio-balls.

Ok so those fish are out of the question then. What kind of fish would you guys suggest? I like the small sharks. Is there any sharks that would be ideal for my tank?

And today I took out %50 of the water and added new water and added the proper amount of water conditioner.
