Besides snails and hermits.....does anyone have a good method for fighting this stuff. I got it when I started my new aquarium and I thought it would run its course, but it's still around. The snails and hermits work on it and I have plenty of them, but it's still around after a couple of months. Would a lawnmower blenny work on bublle agae? Any suggestions?

what type of bubble algae is it? there are a very different kinds, some are simple to get rid of, some are more difficult. also i have heard that emerald crabs do well.

The best solution is to manually remove it without popping the bubbles, from my reading. The bubbles are full of spores which lead to more bubble algae.

My emerald crab does not hang out in the spot where I've got more bubble algae, but there isn't any where he does spend time, which leads me to suspect he's eating it as advertised.

Emerald crabs did the job!

I had the bad type of bubble algae. They looked like small tear drops with a hard shell. For months, I manually removed them. Drove me nuts. I had to take the rocks out of the water in case the bubbles popped. I was ready to throw in the towel when my son read that emerald crabs would eat it. Everything I had read say that nothing would eat my type of bubble algae, but it's gone.
Good luck!! :D

Thanks a bunch. I have the small bubble algae. I also notice that a lot of bubbles float to the top from where it is. Going to get emerald crabs. How many did you get and what size tank do you have.

Hmmmmm....I just looked at a picture of valonia (bubble algae). That is not what I have. I have a green algae that grows on my substrate, overflow, spouts, corners of the glass, etc... It seems to get worse as the lights stay on longer and then disipates a little overnight (maybe the hermits and snails are working on it). The algae has little tiny air bubbles all over it which are released periodically. That is why I thought I had bubble algae, but it is not as the picture I saw, (www.globaldialog.com/~jrice/algae_page/valonia.htm ). Any ideas on what it is? How do I best treat it? Thanks.

you just attach it when you reply to the message. most likely you will have to reduce quality, and resize
