Bubbles in the Sump Wet/dry

I'm new to sumps and wet/dry filters. What is the problem with bubbles in the water? And whats up with the spacing of the baffles?

What do you mean what's up with the space? lol. It should be spread out just enough to put mechanical or bio filtration in between without haveing water pass through.

that doesnt make sense why wouldnt i want water to pass thru the water filter? my question is about bubbles, and also what that thing is that goes like |l|
