bubbles on rock

A pic and more info on your tank would help but sounds like Cyno to me. Water changes, higher flow and cutting your light cycle down usually helps along with cutting back on your feeding. A UV will only cover up the problem so you are better off getting to the source of the problem. What are your water parameters, flow, lighting and how old are your bulbs and how long has your tank been set up.

The bulbs are old, i have 2 flouresecnt tubes (3ft), one is an actinic blue and the other is a marine daylight. They could both do with replacing but im holding back to save up for a halide unit.
The tank is a juwel 180 and i have 2 korilia 1500ltr powerheads. I have A fluval 205 external filter which i am going to replace with the fluval fx5.
I think i could do wih more flow myself. Would a picture of the tank help?

Yeah i get that too it is just the algae trying to grab oxygen out of the water i think i could be wrong. i just scrub the bubbles off with a fine toothbrush now and again.
the fluval fx5 will certainly help with your flow....i use one in my 100gal and i find it an excellent filter.
If it is air bubbles on the side of the tank that is one thing, However I would tend to think by the description, and without a pic that it could be bubble algae. It is bad, and the more of the bubbles you break the more it spreads.
I do have a couple of bubbles like this, but thats not causing any problems yet. I will try and upload a pic for you all.
That looks like red slime algae, AKA Cyano. This means one of three things, or a combination of all. Not enough flow, high phosphates, or high nitrates. One or all of these things is causeing the problem. What is your flow in the tank? What are your nitrates and phosphate levels? Do you use ro/di water? How much/often do you feed? Do you use a skimmer?
Now algae doesn't grow like you have it growing in your tank unless it has a lot to feed on! I can see hair algae all over your other rocks in that picture, this is bad too. Something in your tank is way off!!! I know you said in an earlier post that your water was fine, howerever "fine" does not tell us anything. What are the actual number from your nitrate and phosphate tests?
