bubbles on rock

I would remove the Halimeda if it was me, I would run your canister empty but if you want put some carbon in it and change it every week. I would try pointing the PH streight acrross the back and maybe rearange the rock work to give it some protection for now. I had a torch rite in front of a 400 gph power head and it was fine now its in my friends tank in front of and just below a 2600 gph power head and it is still fine, believe it or not most corals will get use to higher flow as long as the PH is not blowing directly on it just try to move rock around to protect it a little and the extra flow will help with the cyno and hair.

I would double the amount you have now but only add small amounts or just 1 at a time and make sure it is cured before adding it. I am not sure how you have your PS running as in thick and dark skimate or thin and liter color skimate but I would try to run it liter in color for now but keep an eye on your SG because it may go down because you will be emptying it often but that will help get the nutrients down for you.

Ok then, here's an update for you all.
I have took the Halimeda Algae out as advised oin friday 17th october.
I have repositioned the new powerhead and have it running 24/7. The torch coral seems to be fine.
My salt level is getting better, 1.022 now (it was 1.018).
Ph 8.1
Nitrate 0
Ammonia 0.1-0.3
Nitrite 0
Phosphate 0
KH 7.4

I know some of you suggest removing my canister filter but as yet i dont have enough live rock and so will have to keep cleaning it regularly.

Since i last cleaned the rocks of this red algae (cyno), I have not had a come back (touch wood).
I think myself that i didnt have enough flow in there, and maybe still could do with upgrading my 2 korilia 1's to 2's. From looking at my pics do you think this is a good idea?

I cannot seem to get my ammonia below 0.3, is this normal?
Could it be because i need more rock?

Thanks for your advice up to now....i need to learn somehow and get this tank up to scratch asap.:)

Ammonia is not normal, sorry I didnt go back thru the whole post but are you useing RO/DI water?? What is the footprint of your tank, I ask because you might be better off with Koralia 3's. The recomended amount of LR is about 1-1 1/2 lbs per gallon, as far as the cyno try to keep your feedings light, reduce your lighting cycle until you can up grade because the spectrum might be going and that can contribute to the cyno. When you add LR make sure it is cured also I would continue with WC's of about 15-20% every week making sure to get anything that has settled and blow off your rock work before the WC.

my tank is a juwel 180, Measurements: 101 x 41 x 50 cm, 180 litres
im using RO water from my lfs.
I have reduced feedings already but will keep lighting down also.
When i add a piece of live rock (cured) how long should i leave it before adding another piece?

So ultimatley, im looking for 0's on all water test results?
Another question, i have read somewhere that people use live rock rubble in their canister filters. Is this an option for me or is it a waste of time?
I do not have a sump for this setup, if i take the canister out, i will be loosing a few litres of water. Will the tank be ok without any external filtration, just live rock and powerheads with a skimmer?

The figures quoted for live rock ratio are there to perform as a natural filter therefore making any external filter uneccesary. Yes you can put rubble in your filter, I have on my 30 gal tank.

With regard to your parameters they should be as follows:

NitrIte - 0
NitrAte < 10
Ammonia - )
Phosphate - 0
pH - 8.1 - 8.3

You say you get your RO water from your LFS, have you tested it? I love my LFS but even he get a bit slow on changing the filters!!!

No, i havent tested new water. Now you mention it, it makes sense.

All i am thinking with the canister is to keep it running and to get maximum benefits from it, i.e. its an additional flow, its 7.5litres more water (its not much i know but its got to help?) and anything else it will do.
So then, if i put live rubble into it, how often should i clean it with tank water?

Why should nitrate be at 10?
