over the last couple of weeks i ran into a little dilema,
there are fleas or some other small biting insect living in my apartment. i havent been bit but my girlfriend who lives with me has been bit quite a lot, leaving ichy swollen rashes. there seems to be no other solution than to bug bomb the place. my problem is that i have a 55 gal Fowlr in the living room. is there any thing i can do to keep from contaminating my tank?

the only thing i can think of is to release the fish (local caught), wrap the tank really really well with plastic wrap, and go ahead and bomb it.

any suggestions?

Yeah I would get cling film and wrap the tank top up as tight as I could. Make sure you do any maintanance before you wrap it (e.g water changes) and leave it wrapped for as long as possible. It really depends if your fish will get enough oxygen, should do if you have plants etc.

Flea bombs linger but I doubt it will harm your fish after the initial bomb.

Colt :D

Don't think I would use a bomb with a marine tank. Aren't there carpet powders/other treatments for this problem? Also be advised, if you have an airstone, the air pump will carry the poison into your tank.

I flea bombed and that's what I did. When you take the plasic off be carefull not to knock any of the poison back in the tank. If you have a protein skimmer your ox shoud be good. It can't be air tight, but if you don't put the bomb close to your tank you should be able to have an air hole. You need the hole to be on the side because the poison that will hurt your tank settles like rain. Don't forget to seal EVERYTHING in a bag or though it in your car.(water changing tubes, salinaty testers, all your testing stuff, buckets, chemicals, EVERYTHING)

Spend a little extra money and hire a professional. There are products out there that will do a far better job and they aren't airborn like the bombs. Do yourself a favor and call an exterminator, explain your situation and see what they advise you to do.

the tank only has to be sealed for 2 hours, but i dont know if there will be enough oxygen in there for the fish. i have a bit of red algae (corriline and non-corraline) but is there any way to add more oygen? should i run an airpump from outside and pump bubbles into the tank?

Not that long ago our cats got fleas, and we didn't want to bomb for that same reason. We gave the cats Frontline for three months and it killed all the fleas. If this infestation is due to the presense of a cat or dog that is what I would HIGHLY recommend,
