Building a tank

Is tempered glass really a good idea for use in an aquarium?

I seem to remember reading that tempered glass is a no no no no no no for aquariums due to the way it fails, no cracking and eventual failure, "tick" and woosh... the contents of your aquarium is on the floor. There is no warning.

i have never built a aquarium nor do i have personal experience with tempered glass "detonation" but from what i know about tempered glass i don't think i personally could use it for an aquarium.

Actually many larger tanks (55+) have tempered glass bottoms so I would think it's fine to use for a tank.
For a tank this small I don't think it's needed at all and would be very expensive.

ya sort of what i figured

edit: going to pick up the glass soon and these are my measurement for glass

18 6/16"x10" Two pieces (ya i made it an inch taller)
9"x10" two pieces
18"x9" one piece
