I have a 55 gallon lizard cage thats all glass and empty. It can't hold water, is there a way I can seal it so that it will hold water or would it still leak?
thanks

As a reptile man myself, I would be very cautious in trying that. Most reptile cages aren't made to withstand the water presure of a full aquarium. Not to mention the weaght of the gravel. Without knowing the glass specs I wouldn't try it. Just think..... if the glass can't hold the pressure and you set it up, it breaks and you loose everything and have a really big mess. Me personally.... I would just spend the money and buy a 55g aquarium.

I agree with Shierkahn. The reptile tanks I've seen have much thinner glass than comparably sized aquariums--I don't think they would hold water. It's unlikely that the glass would break, but the seams would likely split.

55 gallons is a LOT of water if that aquarium leaks...

However: You might be able to pull off a terrarium though- that way you don't stress the tank to the point of breaking, and you're still able to keep fish-

Try resealing the cage with aquarium-safe sealant, let it sit for a couple days, and filling it 1/3 full with water in your backyard. Have a freshwater swamp terrarium- you could have some anabantidae (gourami or a betta) and some catfish, and perhaps some amphibians? That'd be quite a lot of work, but would be amazing if you can pull it off.

Thoughts, anyone?

I wouldn't do the terrarium either, not without a false bottom. I tried that and the bottom cracked where the land and water meet. Weight is not dispursed evenly enough. But, with the false bottom it could work if done right.
