i saw some bulbs you can get in a package at wal mart that suposibely you plant em and then grow, like a seed what do you think? has anyone fried them>?
I bought some just over a month ago. The package says that after 20 days, you'll get growth from 3-5 inches. It has been nearly 40 days & I have just recently spotted some root growth on one of the 3 bulbs. I was gonna throw them out too.
I tried those once, they're the only live plants in this pic.
All I did was drop them in. There were two different packages I believe, one of them said to bury the bulbs before the roots came out, the other (diff. type of plant) said to bury the bulb after the roots came out. They got pretty big with just a single NO flourescent strip. I liked them.
I tried both types in various tanks. the only ones that grew were that socalsunset appears to have with the long "feeler" vines. My pleco would keep uprooting the ones I put in that tank so when the one grew, I moved it to a different tank after replanting it a dozen times in the rocks. we had one in our 10 gallon puffer tank that had stems about 20" long winding around the tank within a week or two. None of the other bulbs ever sprouted so they got trashed after a month or so. I don't have any plant lights so that could be a problem I guess. kyle
I got rid of my 9in. plec before I put those bulbs in. I knew they wouldn't survive with him in there. They're great for your first go at a 'low-tech' plant tank.
