I introduced a 3inch Tiger Oscar 4 days ago in my 180gal occupied be an arowana and a 6inch pacu. The Oscar chases the Pacu around everytime it gets near it. The Pacu is so much bigger and fatter than the tiny Oscar and it still gets punked the coldest. The Pacu wont even go near it or even stay on the same side of the tank as the Oscar. The Pacu is the only fish that gets chaded aroud, it doesnt even bother the arow or the pleco.

arow is only 7-8inches it doesnt bother the oscar nor does it bother it. But I doubt the Pacu would even touch it. Anyways does all this chasing cause stress torwards the fish?

If your tank is set up with lots of territories and hiding places the pacu should be fine. At any rate, the pacu will get mad bigger than the oscar at adult size- I would worry about the oscar! Do you know what you are going to do with your pacu when gets over a couple feet long? What type of pacu is it? hey i am seattle to, btw- the good ol 206! :D i live in the north end, neat to have a seatlite online here with me.... :soda:

Hey I'm over here in the ghetto south end of beacon/rainer. It's a red pacu and it shares a 180 with a silver arow, tiger oscar and a pleco.

You ever go down to chinatown? At this one fish store called kings discus they have a couple 35+inch silver arowanas living in a 180gal. Those things are huge and their about 20 years old each. There is also a HUGH black pacu about 30inches on display in a 180gal at the kau kau chinese bbq, its been their for maybe 25 years or more and lived off of koi pellets alone. My grandfather use to work there when my family immigrated here back in the late 70's. I dont understand why everybody keeps saying that a 180 isnt big enough for pacu's and i must get a 300/500 gallon tank. That pacu at the restaraunt has been in the same sized tank for over 2 decades. Same with the arowana's living together in a tank no bigger than 180 for 20 years.

I'm another 206 and 253 person... work in the 206, live in 253. Where do you two typically go for your aquarium fish and supplies?

Our Black Pacu lived in a 412 gallon tank for about 17 years. We thought he was resonable happy, but he wasn't very active. For the past 17 months he has been in a 3240 gallon tank & the change in him is remarkable! He is more active, swims around alot, and has begun to grow some more! I think you can keep the big fish in smaller tanks, but it would be like you living in a broom closet - it can be done, but it's not avery comfortable environment.

I go to chinatown to get all my fish supplies, no tax on anything. Everything is cheaper. You gotta know the right spots and the owners.

I just go to the petsmart right by me- I live right on 130th and Greenwood so its just a few blocks away. I def am going to check out that one in the ID, I think I know where you are talking about. I dont know much about pacus, except that they get huge! Yeah I wanna see the arows at King's, sounds hella interesting being that old. What about the store on Ranier by Franklin or whatever that High Scool is by McClellen? I always tell myself to go check it out but it looks sorta scuzzy on the outside (nneds a paint job) but I know that doesnt nessecairly(sp) mean anything about their fish or staff. Petsmart had a tiny polypterus palmas the other day- lil guy was less than an inch with his gills still flopping about (their gills go away as they mature) and skinny as a pencil lead. I went back a wek later, they still had him and I couldnt resist. Now he is an inch and a half and as round as a bic pen. When I transfer them to th big tank after x-mas I hope that they will all get along or else I will give my younger one away. I heard they do not get along with ach other but then again I have read alot of accounts of multiple polypterus in large tanks, hopefully one your size will work- 160-180. I guess I shouldnt be counting my chickens before they hatch, but I am sure things will work out.

All bichirs will coexist happily. The only thing to watch out for is size differences. At an inch and a half your 5 inch polli will have no problem swallowing it.
