Anyone have a Bumblebee cat fish? Just wondering how your doing with it. Mines swell. In fact its not very trim but plump! Its not out much but real cool when it shows its face. It goes wild when I do water changes and swims around like a wild man. How big do they get?

I have both kinds =the siamese something which is the asian. is brown and light brown and gets maybe 5 to 6 inches long. the female getting much fatter than the male.

the one from south america - the microsomething something- is more brownish black and orange, gets about 2 inches long with a head a little wider than my thumb.
I hardly ever see them either, but when i do, they are fat. i guess i over feed my cichlids a little and the cats are pretty good at clean up duty.

I guess I have the asian one because its about four inches. It almost looks like a clown loach? Except not as bright. Mine ate up some tetras I had but only gets pellets now. So I must have a female asian then? Thanks. I did not know that. I've had it about 8 months to a year now. A very cool fish. Its like an unknown member of the family but is very much loved when it decides to show its self. I also have mine with cichlids.

5 to 6 inches, i thought they got way bigger than that. i was gonna buy one too! ill have to check and see if they still have any at the lfs.

are they aggressive? i dont want them messin with my other catfish.

this would be the asian one. note the forked tail

and this would be the south american one.

Thanks for the pics andru. It appears I have the American one instead. It swims wildly where ever he wants to go and will eat any fish that fits in his mouth. None of my cichlids bother with it either. A cool cat indeed!

pseudomystus siamensis - according to panet catfish. i have seen them at petsmart. they will all be swarmed in a pile under a hiding place/ catfish cave.

community question.
-maybe in community tanks where no member of the community will fit in its mouth. i havent seen them go completely berzerkers like a channel cat sometimes does. it is a very shy catfish though. your best bet to enjoy would be to watch at night or set up a cave / hiding place that still gives you a bit of a view of him.

mine currently found a hiding place in a vertical position so you still see his tail wagging. i keep thinking- he must get tired but maybe neutral boyancy [sp?] helps.
