i'm just wondering, can I keep a bumblebee goby in a 2g aquarium? i'm gonna get one soon. they're only like, 1.5 inches full grown, right? any advice on care and food etc. is welcome

You may be able to keep 2. However I think they can get aggressive sometimes. IME they enjoy frozen foods, but won't touch dried. they especially like brine shrimp. they are technically brackish, but can be kept in fresh with no problems. (I would think brackish is best if you can provide it, though).
I've got 2 in a 3 gallon tank. They nip at each other a bit especially when I feed them but have never injured one another. The tank is loaded with driftwood and mangroves that probably diffuses any serious aggresiveness but I suspect they'd be fine anyways. They've refused anything except live (I've given them brine shrimp, mosquito larvae, and temporarily added female guppies at birthing time) and frozen foods, and they even refuse some frozen foods (blood worms seem to be their favorite). I keep them in brackish water but occasionally do a large water change with fresh water - they always become extremely active when I do. I recently added 2 halfbeaks to the tank and everyone is doing fine.
you ADDED two halfbeaks? i hate to say it, but it's now overstocked in a 3 gal. how long have the halfbeaks been in there? if they haven't started exhibiting aggression, they probably will because there's definitely not enough room in there for all of them.
i added the halfbeaks more than a month ago. the surface of the tank is almost completely covered with floating plants so allthough one of them is clearly dominant they are coexisting peacefully. i anticpate having to move them to a larger tank as they grow, i've seen adult sizes listed from 2-5", just waiting to see unless someone here knows. the gobies and halfbeaks don't seem to care about each others existence whatsoever - the halfbeaks spend all of their time at the surface while the gobies rarely approach the surface. i know at a glance it seems like a small environment but i keep several small aquariums and make sure to maintain high water quality.

what kind of HB is yours? if it's just the common wrestling HB, which grow to 2.5 inches full grown, i'd say you could keep them and the gobies in a 10g quite happiliy. show us a pic so we can tell which species you're dealing with.cristos314 said:
