butter fingers! spilled treatment in tank.

i've been trying to get my water to do something...anything....

the pH is still 7.5
general hardness of the water is 60
carbonate hardness is 80
nitrate is still at 0
and nitrites are still at 0 too.

filter is running (it's a coldwater tank so no need for a heater), everything else is fine...

why isn't anything happening?
it's been set up a week now. the water was cloudy for a few days and i added stuff (can't remember the name, it was tap water conditionair or some filter aid thing), but that subsided.

now it seems nothing in the water has changed!
i test the water everyday too.

the general hardness has seemed to increase a little and the pH has gone down by 0.5.

i just don't get it!

then i spilled some nutrafin cycle in it by accident, maybe the equivilent of around 4 capfuls.... :uhoh:

i was trying to do a fishless cycle...but perhaps i should get the goldfish this weekend and continue a with a fishy cycle?

any advice would be very much appreciated!

What exactly are you looking for the water to do? Are you dosing ammonia? If you are dosing ammonia for a fishless cycle, it can take 2+ weeks before you start seeing measurable nitrite, and 2-4 more weeks before you get nitrates and are at 0 ammonia and nitrites.

Also, what kind of additives are you using? Your water params seem fine, no need to mannually adjust things. The only chem you should need is a dechlorinator like prime.
 
nutrafin cycle for the tank to cycle.
i think i'm just being impatient aren't i lol.
and i am using prime dechlorinator.

You have to have a source of ammonia to cycle a tank....Either pure ammonia,a raw shrimp or add fish and do a fishy cycle...But pure ammonia is your best option as you can dose it more precise and you dont have to worry about damaging or killing fish like you would a fishy cycle.

The product called "Cycle" is pretty much a waste of money....I dont think I have ever seen any posts about it that stated that it actually helped anything.

Ok. that has been suggested to me before but when i went to my local pet shop (who were rubbish) he really confused me. I asked him what kind of pure ammonia would I put in a fishless cycle and he looked at me like I was talking to him in an alien language.
I know understand that I have to add ammonia, and that cycle is a waste of money (i was getting that impression anyway) so what would anyone suggest to use in it's place?

if you go to the grocery store you can usually buy pure ammonia in the cleaning supplies.
