I have recently noticed button Polyp starting next to the base of my fat fingered leather coral. Should I remove the Button Polyp or is it ok to let it spread at the base of the finger leather coral. I'm not sure how it got to this location since it is a good 18" from the original colony. The base of the finger leather is about 1.5" in diameter and the button is just a single polyp.

It should be ok, although at some point the finger leather might shade out the button polyp(s) more quickly than they can grow and spread.

I also have a group of several green hairy mushroom just in front of and under the finger leather. They have been there for awhile and I did not notice a problem until recently the leather seems a bit bothered. I suspected the button Polyp because it was new. After some reading on the mushroom and some closer examination, there seems to be some wite markings on the leather closest to the mushrooms and the leather seems to be opening less. I am suspecting the mushrooms are a problem so I have relocated them to a open area in the tank.

Could they be causing a problem?

The mushrooms could have been irritating the leather, causing it to remain closed or not open fully. Relocating them wasn't a bad idea at all. I'd suggest keeping an eye on the area where you noticed some potential damage to the leather, just to make sure it doesn't begin to rot.

Thanks.

I have the mushrooms pretty well isolated and will keep an eye on the leather. I'd really hate to lose it.
