I've looked locally and can't find Siamese algae eaters. I can get Flying Foxes but not true SAE's. The only thing left is buying them online.
I'm curious, what kind of experiences you have had buying fish through the mail? Who would you recommend?
Thanks

Can you ask your LFS to get them?

Buying online is good...however, the shipping is expensive.

I also would encourage you to work with a trusted LFS is possible. It eliminates a lot of headache and potential pitfalls.

Although there is nothing wrong with going on-line too

The Petco around here will order fish for there customers, just thought i would mention that........:)

I'm a little hesitant to deal with some of the locals, the girls at Petco didn't know what a Discus fish was, had never heard of Cory Catfish.
One at Petsmart tried to tell me Discus HAD to have a Ph of 5 to survive so they had no fish I could put with them.
I did get 4 Otto cats from there that looked very stressed, 2 died.
Another place tried to sell me Chinese algae eaters for otto cats.
I have one place that is good but they are an hour away and a lot of traffic to deal with, may as well order them online.
Sorry, don't want to make this a bashing thread! It may be worth paying $20 or so for shipping to get 6 or 7 SAEs.

I've had great experiences buying and shipping fish throught the mail.

However, I dont see why you cant just get a siamese flying fox instead of paying a lot more for a true SAE. They're pretty much the same thing.

Truthfully, I've always thought they were the same thing.

The big difference is the aggression factor. Check out this site for details.

Although the FF is a better looking fish, I'd go with the SAE as I had some false SAE and one of them was aggresive towards the other. They had to go. The aggresion is supposed to be the same with FF as it is with false SAE.

Q

Yep, there is a difference in the type algae they will eat too. SAEs will eat BBA
