We have a 900 (+or-) pond in our backyard that is 3ft deep. I have not ventured into fish for it yet, but there are some killer deals on goldies out there right now. I have an empty 90g tank in my living room that I just can't afford to set up right now (african tank eventually), and was thinking of getting some goldfish now and putting them into my pond next spring.

I figure I don't need gravel for the bottom of the tank, don't need a heater and was thinking of getting a Filstar xp4 for the tank (bare minimum).

I have never had goldfish before. Is that all I would need? I think I would buy 3 or 4 fish.

sounds good. you could go with 8-10 small goldies, pond type - comets or shubunkins, or regular fantail goldfish. don't mix them, and don't get any goldfish with weird eyes. it makes it hard for them to avoid predators and compete for food, and comet goldfish will outcompete round-bodied goldfish.

go with a few shubunkins, very pretty fish! You could defiantly keep 3-4 in there until spring. I would put some gravel in there though, mine go through the gravel all the time, keeps them busy i guess lol

You know, I think I will go with shubunkins. I kinda like the crazy mixed-up colors they have. I'm not a "crazy-eyed" goldfish lover (those darn things always look like they are going to explode.....)

I'm still debating on substrate. More toward the ...no... side, but you never 'know'..

thanks,

Michele
