What are the best (least expensive) sites for purchasing tanks, equipment and fish online? I want to find better prices for things I can get locally, but I don't want to buy from places that compromise quality (especially in regards to fish health). I had the most trouble finding sites that sold actual tanks (unless they were the very fancy expensive ones).

For those of you who have bought fish online, where did you get them and how was your experience?

For tanks,I would suggest buying local. If bought on-line you will pay tremendous shipping fees.

For equipment and supplies, the cheapest i have found is www.bigalsonline.com

For buying fish,I have no experience buying fish on-line as I have been able to get just about anything i want locally,so maybe one of the other members can give some good advice here.

Hope this helps:)

fish sources

I'm especially interested in good fish sources for things like specially bred fish (to get nicer strains than the regular pet store tends to have) or fish not commonly seen in pet stores. I like the more unusual versions of the common fish, such as unique plecos or corys. I am currently trying to plan some new tanks and haven't purchased anything yet, so I am open-minded to any suggested fish.

If you want to suggest unique or interesting fish that people don't usually consider and don't have any experience with sources for them, that is welcome as well!

Dahlia,

Unfortunately I am over the pond so not of much help to you, however a lot of people who are into cichlids have heavily recommended Jeff Rapps for excellent quality cichlids:
