you know, you shouldn't get too angry at your son trying to play protector, considering that had you just laughed all of this off in the beginning, he wouldnt have seen reason to be so defensive.. As it is, you fitted yourself with tinfoil hats and conspiracy theories and government agency nightmares... Of course, YOU frightened the boy into thinking his family was in danger. Bravo.
In fairness to Chef, I don't think that this was a joke just to be laughed off in the beginning. Someone sent an odd package to his house, and there was a cryptic note left that people had entered his home... Not particularly funny stuff when you have a wife and kids to care for.
Having read this thread since early on, I'll agree that Chef appeared to be reading a little too deeply into things with regard to government agency involvement. Many things suggested this wasn't a government conspiracy, but the bottom line is that somebody did actually send/do this stuff, and government agency or not, it's NOT funny when you have a wife and kids to care for. Definitely not something to just laugh off.
Had this happened to myself, I would have proceeded differently, but I wouldn't have just laughed it off...It's not funny. I would have, at the very least, gathered my kids and reinforced the old "We don't talk to strangers." And if there was ever a note on my door (no matter how crazy the note) that someone saw people entering my home while I wasn't there, I would definitely, 100%, without a doubt, call the police... Once again, not funny stuff.
So, yes, Chef overreacted, and quite a bit at times... but IMO someone was pushing buttons (intentionally or not) that they shouldn't have been pushing. Not funny stuff when you have a wife and kids to care for.
