Why would my beautiful Cabomba be dying?? All the leaves are falling off and it's turning kind of brown-ish.

It's in a 5g.. I put a small pinch of freshwater aquarium salt with every water change. I have a 20watt bulb... no Co2 .. no fertilizers or anything like that.

What can I do to bring it back.. or is it too far gone... ???
Or what's causing it to die..

Could you get a picture of the plant, with as much light on it as you can manage? I am no plant doctor but for those who are a look at the patient would be a great help.

also, what else is in the 5g? Fish, inverts, other plants? How long have you had it, has it grown any since you've had it, when did it start showing this problem. Did you make any changes around that time, take anything out or add anything new? Oh, and what temperature are you keeping the tank at? Is your water hard or soft, hi or lo Ph? I think that covers all the diagnostic questions I can think of.... :)

It's a bit late tonight and Super Bowl sunday on top of it, so you might not get a lot of responses until tomorrow. Best of luck...

20 watt of what bulb?? Is it a 6500K????

Cabombas need lots of light, not too picky about substrate.

Light is extremely important for cabomba. Hornwort would be a better alternative, since it sounds like your plant is dying.

Why add the salt?Thats never good for any plant. It also sounds as if your light is insufficient.Cabomba is very difficlut to keep without high light and some form of carbon source be it excel or co2 injection.

Hello. I thing that your 4WPG light without CO2 and ferts is the problem. I have Cabomba in my 40 long with 2,5-3 WPG CO2 and ferts growing like crazy tall and not that wide in diameter. In my 12gal with 15W 6500K,Excel ,iron, florish and trace element 1-2x week it is grow slow but with 3x diameter than in 40gal.

What kind of fertilizer do you use?
Will it harm my zebra danios or snails?
And what kind of light do you prefer?

I put a small pinch of freshwater aquarium salt with every water change.

This doesn't help. Stop doing it. "Freshwater aquarium salt" is an oxymoron.

Having high light and no CO2 won't kill cabomba; it'll more likekly incourage algae, but then in small tanks you need proportionally more light, apparently.

What is the GH? Cabomba doesn't like hard water, IME.
