Cacti/succulents from seed

I got some aloe vera babies from my Grandpa's aloe. Had lots of them but he had me throw them all away and I threw all but 1 away. Now many years later my grandma has some growin and I got some growing. If you want one let me know. May be able to part with one.

I grew a bunch of cactus from a mixed seed packet when I was a teenager in the 60's. It was easy. I transplanted them into styro cups and sold them for 50 cents at a flea market.

I used to grow various houseplants from seed including cactus. One trick is to keep the seed on top of the soil but under some sort of dome (like a clear plastic cup). Then just sprinkle the seed with water until it opens, and then cover it with soil. The thing about cacti seeds is that some take several weeks to sprout so you have to be patient.

A source for succulent type plants and cacti seeds that I used a few years back was www.parkseed.com The Park Seed Company.

I got a small piece of Opuntia last summer and it's turned into a nice plant. It's in bloom right now, and I can hardly wait for the fruit! I was thinking about trying to germinate some seeds from it if it sets fruit successfully. Good info here!

Well, this project is definitely already testing my patience but hopefully it will be well worth it...

Holly: it never occurred for me to do that before planting. I may try that if none of the seeds germinate this time around.

I don't have much in the way of help, but GL with it... I'm interested to see how it goes for you!
