Cadd’s First Community Tank

Yeah...I don't plan on keeping them. I took them knowing that if I didn't they'll probably end up getting flushed down a toilet. =( I'm going to post up a Craigslist ad to see if anyone with a pond will take them in. One of the goldfish doesn't look too good. He has a few circular spots on his body that's darker in orange color.

Lots to catch up on!

  • I don't think I have a temp gun to check but I don't think my PS gets that hot. Have you swapped it yet?
  • lol The aquarium bug is a fun thing. We all look at things differently now, you are not alone. :)
  • Future tip, you should remove the tape as soon as you are done painting or siliconing. ;) You will probably never even see that area though so it'll be fine. Black is a great choice, my favorite. Hopefully the plasti-dip doesn't come off TOO easily. I love that stuff, never used it on glass before though.
  • BDBS can be a bit dirty but it'll be fine.
  • Love the DIY glass tops you are making but so jealous that you can use that thin lowes glass! I have a 3ft span to cover and it's just too thin. :(
  • Wood looks fine for aquarium use and I agree about the colosseum.
  • All that rock LOOKS fine to use. Things to look out for are limestone based rocks and any shiny bits, they tend to be heavy metals. You can test the rocks with vinegar.
  • Craigslist is a good start for rehoming the fish. If you REALLY get stuck with them I could take them but I'd rather not add more "unwanted" fish to me pond if possible.

For rehoming fish, you can always give the North Jersey Aquarium Society Facebook group a try, just post on there.

Or you might try posting in the classifieds on monster fish keepers, they get a lot more traffic than here.

Cadd's been gone for 3 weeks. :( Come back Cadd! I need my updates! o_O

Wow, it has been a while since I’ve updated. I ended up giving away the feeder fish to someone with a backyard pond. I still have the betta. I took apart the 29 gallon tank and finally got around to putting the 55 gal together.

Took me a few hours to set up. But this was the final design I liked.

A few days after setting up the tank (and after giving away the feeder goldfish), I noticed my shrimp are out more often. I guess they don’t have to worry about anyone harassing them. I have about 10 ghost shrimps, 4 mystery snails and 1 betta in there (along with a few pond/pest snails).

But, this one is about to give birth

The snails are doing their own hanky panky too (I think)

Here’s a tiny pest/pond snail. I love the way they look. Reminds me of a turbo under the hood.

I also picked up three little things of Jungle Val from a seller on CL for $3. Additionally, a friend is trying to thin out his stock from his community tank and he gave me 10 long fin Zebra Danios and 4 mickey mouse platies.

So right now, I have the following:
1 male betta
10 zebra danios
4 mickey mouse platies
10 ghost shrimps
4 mystery snails
Pond snails (no idea how many)

I’m thinking about picking up some guppies. Maybe 2 males and 5 females? Would that be ok? Would I have room for the guppies and maybe a school of tetras? Any suggestions on the school? I want something that schools tightly if possible.
