About a month ago I bought CAE's thinking they were otos. Today at the LFS I saw real otos and bought two. Now I want to get rid of the CAE's because they are supposed to be aggressive and grow pretty big and they hardly ever show themselves. Im having some trouble netting them. My tank is very heavily planted and there are many hiding places and I dont want to have to tear it all down. Can anyone offer suggestions on catching them.

They like caves. Put a piece of pvc pipe in, let them get used to it as their refuge for a couple days. When they 'run' to it, but a net over one end, and your hand over the other and scoop the whole thing out.

When I removed my SAEs from my planted tank I had pretty good luck holding the net still and herding the fish into it with my hands.

I tried herding it into th net with my hands but there are not many places where I can fit the net in, and there are a lot of ways to escape. I will try the PVC thing. I almost caught it when it was attached to the glass.

I agree, either a cave/pipe or chase it in. A very sad aside: I just had to return my 7 inch CAE, she wasn't mean or over aggresive, but my cichlid was. she was beating the snot out of the CAE. I can't put anything in there with her!

Luckily the LFS (owner is a fish guy and very knowledgable) took her and were willing to exchange for different critters. We passed though. I am not going to put anything in with her. I am just glad they were willing to take her.

Sad really, she kept the tank so clean.
