caecilian worm

has anybody else out there kept these before? they are quite interesting creatures. they are also called rubber eels, in case you don't know what they are, they are purple-grey in color, look like a big worm or snake, teeny tiny eyes and a big mouth. they aren't fish, they are amphibians. i had gotten a couple a long time ago but they got out of the tank and died, back when i didn't know any better to keep the top of the tank completely covered. they are very hard to find, but if you do and are able to keep one in your large tank, give them a try, they are cool.

Interesting, alright, sort of like a giant earthworm. What do you feed him?

i fed mine tubifex worms, the cubed kind, they find their food by smell since they can't see very well at all. easy to hand feed too.

Careful- I hear they can have a nasty bite.

Caecilian worms are awesome. The store I've worked for was able to get them in pretty regularly. Good luck with yours!

Not at all....but Amphiuma do. The species of caecilian sold as 'rubber eels/worms' is Typhlonectes natans.

I had Googled "caecilian worm" in the past to find more info about them when the store was selling them... the sources I found pretty much lumped together multiple species with some very general information. Thanks for clarifying!
