I'm curious how I measure what my calcium level of my 30 gal tank is. I have some stuff that I am supposed to put into the tank. It says "to raise calcium level by 50ppm put 3 teaspoons for every 10 gallons" which would mean that I put 9 teaspoons to raise my 30gal tank by 50ppm but what level should it be at and how do I test? I've already put in 9 teasoons so I would think I'm arounf 50ppm right now, but I think I am supposed to be around 400ppm, but am unsure.

I have no fish in the tank yet, I have about 24lbs of live rock, some live sand, and that's all that's in the tank right now. Thanks.

you need to buy a calcium test kit. most people wont dose anything unless they test for it. if you keep dosing, and your dosing more than your tank is actually using, then you calcium level will get really high. i dont know what that would do as far as calcium goes, but i know if you put to much ph buffer in a tank it can have a really negative effect on some of the inhabitants.
