Any thoughts on calcium levels? Specifically in the high range. Is too high good, bad, or doesn't matter? I just performed a test and got just over 500.

Ca will percipitate if it gets really high, but i dought you are goign to run into that. however, at levels of 500, it can be enough to build up in your powerheads, which would eventualy ruin the prop. also, if you Ca is high, then your other levels such as ALK, pH, and Mg could be thrown off, which would be a bad thing.

Maybe that's why my PH has fallen off abit?

very possible. check you ALK and Mg if you have the tests to do so.

Will do. I don't have a Alk tester but I'm sure my LFS has one that they will be more than happy to sell me.

Update: It's been 7 days since I dosed any calcium and the test levels are still in the >500 level (520) PH levels are in the 8.0 range. This is becoming an interesting test. All inhabitants still looking great. Will report back in another 7 days.

how old is the test kit?
just trying to rule that out.
what re you getting in your mixed saltwater?

It's a Salifert kit out of Holland and it expires 03/2011. I just tested my tap water and it came in at 50. On my next water change I will measure the mix and the tank the following day. I have delayed my water change as I am going install a UV sterilizer this week while the system is down.

.....?1.6? i think you are using/reading your test wrong...... using the wrong test? lol
Ca should be about 400-440, not 1.6
what salt are you using? (although, no salt will give you that Ca level, but jsut wondering if it really is low)
