so im ordering some calico BNP off line and i heard that they need drift wood to feed on so i was just wondering if they had any more special dietary needs or if i should get anything special for the tank. i going to try to breed them so i want them to be as comfortable as possible.

They don't need driftwood, though they like to feed on the algae and whatever else tends to grow on it. NLS pellets are great as a staple food, supplemented with vegetables like fresh zucchini or canned green beans a couple times weekly. Mature males prefer a cave for spawning, and will spend most of their time in the one they choose IME. Females will go in, spawn, then go back to cruising around the tank while the male fans the eggs, guards the fry, etc.

thanks for the info.
do i have to prepare the vegtables in some way or can i just chop them up and throw them in.

I second toddnbecka! They also like peas, cucumbers, melons and broccoli stems. Some BN's havent ever had veggies and fruits so dont be put down if they dont eat it the first couple times. Sometimes it takes a second for them to realize it's food.

Such pretty fish, you should post pics for us when you receive them! :D
