Calling RyJ

Hello in the locked thread you said this..

Well Professor Haggisman, although I'd like to see some of your 'picture proof' (of god knows what generation of fry) for the BP's not being half Severum, ...but I think I will follow the genetic break down of the BP which was explained at my university.

Any chance you could give some detials, I'm not wanting to start arguaments or anything I am genuinely interested.

Thanks!

Haggisman do you have any info to the blood line to the BP's. I'd like to know where they came from if any proof is out there. Also RyJ if you'd have anything to add.

I dont have any solid proof just whats floating about the net, I always thought someone should genetically test them thats why I'm asking RyJ as he seems to know something we dont.

I'm sure someone has done DNA testing on them......I know that there was some done on the blue dempsey as it started to become popular. Maybe an ACA member might have more info on these fish(BP's). And of course if RyJ has any info I'd like to learn.....I'm gonna ask over at aquamojo and see what I can get from there.

I searched, and searched and found nothing on the web that had solid facts. This is the best I could do

It really surprised me regaurding the lack of information.. I found more solid genetic facts on flower horns a while back... and they are a newer hybrid.

what university breaks down the lineage and history of aquarium fish? i think i need to transfer there!

I had always thought BP's were RD/con hybrids, but now that i think about i had heard severum also.

Hey there,

I've had a poke round a bit too, and was also disappointed by the lack of any solid "proof" relating to the genetics of BPs.

For what it's worth, the following links were interesting though:
