I'm in the process of raising some RCS and would like to breed them (or let them breed, lol). I'm wondering about plants, substrate, and temps.

Pro/Con barebottom vs substrate and real plants vs fake plants... And what temp do they breed fastest at?

I want to encourage breeding and give them a nice place to live AS WELL AS have a tank that is easy to maintain and to get them out of when it comes time to sell them.

Any suggestions?

I keep mine in a pretty warm, moderately planted tank.
the temp is about 80-84
it is pretty well it, and has plenty of ground cover.
I wouldnt reccommend a bare bottom tank. Most shrimp constantly pick through the substrate grazing for food.

they like to climb on the plants and eat the algae that grows on the leaves...

what about cleaning the gravel...if you have like 100 babies in the tank will it not be a huge pain to go around them all...would it not be easier to have a bare bottom?

I've got mine in a heavily planted tank with flourite black sand. Cleaning is way easier with sand IMO. The gunk just sits on top of the sand, unlike gravel. I use a piece of airline tubing to siphon the top of the sand, and just watch out for lil shrimpies.

isn't it hard to get the shrimp out if there are a ton of plants (REAL rooted plants) in there??

have ton of plants and when you vac keep the hose kinked ad cut off suction first and wave the vac on ground first to shoo away babies and then unkink and vac a and repeat,..
