Can a 10-20 gallon fishtank be in my bedroom and not disturb me?

I'm just wondering if a 10 to 20-gallon fish tank could disturb me while I'm sleeping, doing homework, watching Netflix, or anything else. I don't have a fish yet, and I'm thinking about putting it in my bedroom.

I would say yes....

But depends how light a sleeper you are.

Finger choice will likely play a role too...

As for it distracting you when you are doing homework or stuff... Only one way to find out.

*Filter, at a guess, not finger.

But perhaps not. :D

As a comparison, we have 6 tanks in our bedroom. Lights are on timers, and all have canister filters, so are quiet. One has a light that never goes full off, and it can keep me up sometimes. In terms of distractions...at a guess, if you're the type to be easily distracted from your homework, it's not going to help.

As others have said, it depends on how deeply you sleep and how distractable you are. I sleep like the dead, and my tank with two HOB filters which isn't in my bedroom but just next to it and easy enough to hear if I'm paying attention has never kept me up. In the same vein, my tank is in my home office and I can easily tune it out.

I am a dual sleeper, the slightly sound or movement can wake me up and I can also sleep through thunderstorms and people screaming. But I've had tanks in my bedroom before. Tanks with an air pump or HOB are a no go for me, canister filters are a must in the bedroom. A canister filter in a cabinet is almost completely undetectable and pointing the output towards the surface but not breaking it keeps it quiet.

Distracting from homework is another story though. :)

Or may make you want to pee if you don't watch the water level ;)

Thanks! I think I'll try a timer out too
